This old-school kopitiam is a must-try for visitors for a quintessential Sarawakian food experience, where you can see three hawker stalls selling Sarawak laksa, Malay-style noodles, and Chinese kolo mee operating side-by-side under one roof.

Kuching's most beloved laksa place is always packed with laksa-loving Sarawakians
As the clock strikes 7.00am, patrons flock to Poh Lam Laksa, Kuching’s most popular laksa stall. The laksa comes in two sizes, medium (RM5) and large (RM6), in which the latter comes with bigger prawns. It is served with the softest strands of rice vermicelli noodles, a sign that they were blanched well, which separated nicely instead of being bundled up when I pulled them up with chopsticks. The laksa comes with chicken shreds and bean sprouts, and topped with coriander leaves.

This bowl of Sarawak laksa is a thing of beauty... ready to be savoured The gravy is an essential part in determining the overall taste of the laksa, and this one is a mix of soury and salty goodness that could put a smile on even the grumpiest faces on an early weekend breakfast. As the café is always crowded with patrons, ask them if you could share tables. Don’t worry about waiting too long for your laksa as the stall has pretty fast service despite the high demand.

You're welcome to ogle the saliva-inducing Sarawak laksa preparation
